Biography
Formed in 2009, Verse Metrics is an atmospheric alternative indie rock band from central Scotland whose music fuses the cerebral precision of math-rock with the cinematic sweep of post-rock. With their style described by GoldFlakePaint as “emotionally raw… but always poignant and beautiful,” the band balance technical intricacy with heartfelt storytelling, soaring melodies and evocative lyrics exploring memory, isolation, and connection.
Through acclaimed releases VM1 (2010), Radians (2012), and We’ll Be Listening And Remembering Until We’re Old And Unsteady (Lonely Voyage Records, 2016), Verse Metrics have steadily honed their sound and built a reputation for powerful, immersive live performances. They’ve headlined iconic Scottish venues such as King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and La Belle Angelle, and shared stages with genre-defining acts like Delta Sleep, TTNG, The Appleseed Cast and VUKOVI.
Their music has drawn praise from across the UK, with Kerrang!, Clash Magazine, The Scotsman, PROG Magazine and more championing the band’s emotive precision and dynamic artistry. Clash Magazine noted that “names such as Interpol and The National could be mentioned, given a fresh twist by a band intent on finding their own voice,” while Prog Magazine praised their “athletic momentum and groove reminiscent of Don Caballero at their best.”
Now comprising Robert Dick (vocals/guitar), Alan Conway (guitar), Kevin O’Hagan (bass), Chris Mackinnon (keys), and Pete Colquhoun (drums), Verse Metrics are preparing to release their debut album ‘Descents’, eleven tracks that mark a bold evolution of their sound: sharper, heavier, and more emotionally resonant than ever.
